True Crime-The Mystery of the Missing Pregnant Marine Continues

Here's a True Crime post and if ever there was a most puzzling True Crime it has to be the sad death of pregnant marine Marie Lauterbach. I watched the press conference on this murder of Lauterbach and her unborn child and what a mess. The alleged perp is missing, the victim burned and buried, the marines tell nothing, an existing rape accusation and as of yet, no one knows who is the father of the unborn baby.

Also, cops enter a New Year's party with guns blazing as a wounded attendee tries to save child. A boy forcibly removed from home by police swat team, a boater stages his death, a pizza man kills a robber and a homeowner shoots an intruder. And a most intriguing True Crime that might adversely affect Hillary Clinton's political campaign.

Cops Riddle New Year’s Party Attendees With Bullets; Man Saves Child

This is just an interesting story although, like most stories, the tale as originally reported is full of holes and questions.

The intriguing part of this tale is that the one fellow killed at the party was actually trying to SAVE his girlfriend’s child. In so doing, Abede Isaac got killed himself.

From Philly.com:
ABEDE ISAAC, though riddled with bullets that were still blasting into the East Germantown rowhouse, saw the 9-year-old son of his girlfriend coming down the stairs into the hail of bullets.

Abede Isaac killed while trying to protect girlfriend's son

Isaac yelled at the boy, "Get up the stairs!" said Clinton Rogers, the homeowner, who witnessed the incident. Then, despite his wounds, Isaac struggled up the steps behind the boy, forcing him upward.

According to the story, there was one bad character at this party, one guy named Dontate Mitchell. This guy, 21 years of age, was shooting bullets into the air on a corner near the party. First thing we must ask…why?

Mitchell said he was shooting his gun to celebrate the New Year, which had just occurred. Two police officers responded to the shooting and chased Mitchell back to the house with the New Year’s party going on. One of the police officers says that Mitchell pointed the same gun he had shot into the air and aimed it at him (the cop). That officer began shooting and followed Mitchell into the house. Isaac heard the shooting which began as his girlfriend’s 9 year old son was starting down the stairs. Isaac rushed up the steps, even while bullets were riddling his body, to chase the boy back up the stairs to safety.

This story is under investigation, of course, as we have a cop gone crazy with shooting while the other cop didn’t shoot a single bullet. These cops shot up a house full of people, including children.

Isaac died of his wounds the following day, alas. Here was a man who risked his life to save his beloved’s child. So often we hear tragic stories about women and their despicable boyfriends who molest and torment her children.

Burglaring Is Damn Dangerous Work

We always like stories of homeowners who do a number on burglars. Below a story of a homeowner who really hurt the burglar attempting to enter his home.

From theIndyChannel.com:
INDIANAPOLIS -- A man shot and beat someone who was trying to break into his home on Indianapolis' east side early Thursday morning, police said.

Police said Donald Robertson, 53, was asleep just after midnight when he was awakened by the sound of breaking glass.

Robertson grabbed a shotgun and went outside, where he found Chester Burkett, 43, breaking one of the home's windows, police said.

I like to think I’d give the same fine homeowner performance should some fellow or another think it’s okay to waltz into my home and steal my property or possibly do me harm.

Reward Offered for Suspect in Marine Murder; Press Conference Reveals Not Much

If ever a True Crime was so confusing in the initial reporting of the act it has to be this convoluted and confusing story of Maria Lauterbach, a pregnant marine.

I’d been following this story right along and yesterday, Monday, 1/14/08, I watched the sheriff’s press conference on this matter. I took notes.

Marie Lauterbach, missing pregnant marine

The timeline, according to the sheriff of some town in North Carolina near Camp Lejeune, is as follows:

-Maria Lauterbach was dead on 12/15/07. How the investigators know this is unclear.
- that same day Maria’s roommate called her family and told them Maria had left.
-On 12/19/07, Maria’s family reported Marie as missing. Per the sheriff at the press conference, a couple of days later the sheriff “looked into it”. Suspect Cesar Laurean hadn’t been mentioned anywhere in the missing person’s report according to the sheriff.
-On 1/7/08-investigators narrow the focus on Cesar Laurean.
-on 1/11/08 a handwritten notes was found by Laurean’s wife. The note said Maria committed suicide. Six hours later a shallow grave containing Maria’s body was found in the Laurean back yard. The next day an arrest warrant was issued for Cesar Laurean.
-on 1/19/08 sheriff’s investigators informed the military about the matter. The military knew nothing.
-on that same day Laurean promised to come down and talk. Instead he took off.
-finally, the sheriff announced a reward for the capture and conviction of Cesar Laurean.

The story of Maria Lauterbach as revealed in press reports is a bit more complicated than the details revealed at the press conference. In fact, the details revealed at the press conference have big, gaping holes that leave one full of questions.

First, over the holidays this story was reported in dribs and drabs. Lauterbach, it was reported, had claimed that a fellow marine, Cesar Laurean, had raped her. Maria’s “stepmother” was quoted as pooh-poohing Maria’s story of the rape, telling investigators that her stepdaughter was bipolar and prone to compulsive lying. Maria had been working side by side with Laurean, an odd fact given that she had accused him of rape.

First, it’s not clear, not even now, whether the female relative of Lauterbach was her mother or her stepmother. It’s not clear either just when this woman downplayed the rape charges as alleged by Maria or to who-the military or civil authorities-for that matter.

It’s also fuzzy that bit about Maria’s “roommate” and what exactly “working side by side” means.

As for the sheriff’s press conference, it’s hard to ignore the timeline that was presented has one big gaping period between 12/15/07 until 1/7/08 which is when the investigators began “looking into” Maria’s disappearance.

We must assume all of the folks who should have been responding to this report had a nice Christmas and a Happy New Year while Maria Lauterbach lay, burned and dead, in a shallow grave in Laurean’s backyard.

The sheriff who gave that news conference was a bit testy and defensive at the questions hurled at him by the reporters. Which damn well those reporters should have been hurling questions because no matter how you slice it, almost a month went by before investigators found a body that would have been found within an hour of the report of the disappearance.

The sheriff kindly didn’t say anything untoward about the military re this investigation but one has to wonder what the hell kind of marine corps has a marine failing to show up for whatever marines do for almost a month and no one bats an eye.

Further, it seems it was Maria’s “stepmother”’s damning words about Maria that might have made investigators back off from the search and I’d sure like to meet this bitch for the time it would take me to slap her silly. If ever some dumb words were proven so wrong it has to be this woman’s cavalier dismissal of Maria.

And what about Cesar Laurean’s wife, dear Lord? Maria is at her house, she is killed viciously, at least according to the reports of blood found even on the ceiling, her body is burned and buried in her back yard…AND SHE DIDN’T KNOW A THING ABOUT IT UNTIL HER BELOVED HUSBAND LEFT HER THE NOTE?

Call me unbelieving.

Finally, this is the question being asked by everybody and answered by no one…WHO THE HELL IS THE FATHER OF THAT BABY?

If the father is the lovely Cesar…hmmmmm. I’ve heard reports that he was the baby’s father but then again I’ve heard it reported that no one knows.

If Laurean is the baby’s father, and that’s easily proved, no? ..well Maria got pregnant by Laurean in some form and fashion.

I bet Mrs. Laurean knows the truth.

From AOL.com:
JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (Jan. 14) -- The ATM card of slain Marine Maria Lauterbach was found in a Durham, North Carolina, bus station over the weekend and the truck of the Marine suspected of killing her was reported in the area, police said Monday.

The search for that suspect, Cpl. Cesar Armando Laurean, was "Earthwide," Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown said at a news conference Monday. He said the FBI is offering a $25,000 reward to anyone providing information leading to Laurean's capture.

Swat Team Holds Family at Gunpoint, Takes Boy for Medical Treatment

Myself got into an online brouhaha over this story. I won’t mention the forum but it’s one I frequent and quote here often.

From WorldNetDaily.com:
The Colorado sheriff who dispatched a SWAT team to break into a family's home, hold them at gunpoint and take custody of an 11-year-old boy for a medical exam sought by Social Services is defending the actions, saying the boy's father told officers to "bring an army" if they returned.

The 11-year-old, Jonathan Shiflett, had suffered bruises while horsing around in a mobile home park near New Castle where the family lives. But his father, Tom Shiflett, refused to allow paramedics who arrived after a neighbor apparently called 911 to treat his son, and refused to allow the ambulance crew to take Jonathan to a hospital.

Evidently this kid suffered some sort of accident that had a neighbor so concerned that the neighbor called an ambulance when the kid’s own parents would not.

Now did the neighbor have the right to do such a thing? Whatever happened to young Jonathan Shiflett is not made clear by the story at the link provided but consider, if you saw a young child take a very bad tumble that resulted in a bloody head, AND if you noticed the child’s parents weren’t doing much of anything about it, wouldn’t you call for medical help? I understand there’s nuances and degrees in my scenario above but the lovely father, Tom Shiflett, has a bit of a nasty reputation and still the neighbor phoned for medical help. I’m going with the neighbor on this one. Most normal people won’t wrestle with a nut case like Shiflett unless they were committed.

In fact, the ambulance crew too was concerned about the child who, by the time of the arrival of the ambulance crew, was inside the Shiflett home where nobody knew what kind of condition the child was in. The paramedics begged Mr. Shiflett to let them see his son, which Shiflett did. Evidently the paramedics were concerned enough by what they saw that they wanted to transport the child to the hospital. The lovely and even-tempered Mr. Shiflett would not only NOT allow the paramedics to transport the boy, he wouldn’t even let them take the boy’s blood pressure and check his vital signs right in the child’s home. It should be noted that the Shifletts had put ice on the boy’s head and appeared to be caring for the child.

The whole thing blew up when the paramedics reported the story to social services. Social service workers went to the home and again the fine and cheerful Tom Shiflett chased them off. An order was issued by social services for the sheriff to go to the Shiflett home, get the boy, and take him to the hospital.

Tom Shiflett, so the article reports, was once arrested for chasing a fellow down the street with an axe. He was allegedly chasing a burglar which is fine but Shiflett’s own words were, to the effect, that had he caught the fellow he would have planted the axe in his back.

Chasing a burglar away from your home is one thing. Chasing a burglar clear down the street with full intent of planting an axe in his back is a bit of a different thing. At any rate, the sheriff only repeated this story of Shiflett’s past as reason for why he felt the need to get a swat team together to get the boy.

The folks on the thread at the forum where this story was originally posted, they beat me up for three solid days. See I think this Shiflett character, well he sounds like a nut case to me.

Further, I use the True Crime posts on this Blog to champion, in effect, the innocent children who have no way to defend themselves. I’ve been there. I know what it’s like to be young and mistreated and have no idea who or where to seek help. And so often, almost always, it’s parental neglect which leads to the death of innocents and yes I lambaste those social service workers who don’t do their job and a child ends up dead that should have been taken away to safety.

Anybody who reads this Blog knows that’s a big thing with me.

But I am also a fervent conservative and no, I don’t for one second espouse the big bully government coming into private homes and telling us how to raise our kids. But by reading this story, I understand a neighbor witness to the accident was very concerned, two paramedics who responded to the scene were concerned, and two social service workers who responded were concerned about the boy were also concerned. Further, why the hell didn’t the fine and personable Mr. Shiflett JUST LET THE PARAMEDICS CHECK THE BOY’S VITAL SIGNS?

When you get a parent going to such lengths to keep any medical people away from a child, first thing you gotta think, is there something this wonderful, even-tempered fellow might be trying to hide? Maybe the kid has some unexplained bruises or such?

No I don’t think swat teams should be descending upon private homes across the fruited plains and taking children out without a damn good cause.

By me, all the Mr. Shiflett had to do to solve the whole matter was to let the paramedics check out the kid.

I still think I’m right although I was called so many names on this forum that I won’t mention I almost had third degree burns.

Well I got my own Blog, I’ll quote the story and I’ll say my piece. This Blog can be freely commented on to registered commenters so hey, anyone can add their thoughts.

I’m sticking to my opinion but warning, I will erase any nasty-assed name-calling comments….I CAN DO THAT.

Boater Stages His Own Death

It seems like staging a fake death is all the rage in True Crimes of late.

From Google.com:
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) — Searchers spent days looking for Julius "Butch" Nesbitt after his empty 14-foot boat was found beached along the South Carolina coast. Now, sitting in a jail 600 miles away, he admits faking his death as he fled from drug charges.

Julius Nesbitt faked his own death

Nesbitt spent more than six weeks on the run before authorities tracked him to a friend's home in western Indiana, where police say he had a fake driver's license and thousands of dollars in counterfeit cash.

The above fellow abandoned an expensive boat. Taxpayers paid almost $200,000 in search efforts for him.

But Nesbitt had himself a fine criminal business going on in that a bundle of counterfeit money was found when investigators finally caught up with him.

Sidewalk Jurors

The old saying is that a juror is a person too stupid to get out of jury duty.

Although, heh, it is the very act of having a jury of our peers that keeps this country free.

Indeed. Hey, would you want to be tried by a “professional” juror…ie folks hired for nothing but judging trials? You don’t think such folk could be paid off?

I like how this judge found the jurors he needed right on the sidewalk in front of his courthouse.

Heh.

From Yahoo.com:
Faced with a shrunken jury pool, a judge resorted to some sidewalk justice in hopes of filling it out. It worked.

Judge Harold Eaton Jr., discouraged when a 34-person pool of potential jurors for a sex case was reduced to 20 people, sent sheriff's deputies into the street Wednesday to summon people to join them.

Two Bodies of Children Toss From Bridge Recovered

Such a fine father, took his little children and tossed them off of a bridge.

Then, when the children were not immediately recovered, the fine Dad tells the investigators STOP…it was all a joke, heh.

Only the bodies of the innocents are slowly being recovered from the killing waters under the bridge.

From edition.cnn.com:
MOBILE, Alabama (AP) -- A second body was recovered Sunday in the search for four children allegedly thrown from a coastal bridge by their father, police said.

Kieu Phan, right, mother of the missing children, talks to the media Saturday with the help of The Rev. Phi Vo.

The body was found by a search team near where a duck hunter found the body of an infant on Saturday, said Mobile County sheriff's Sgt. Jerry Taylor.

Hillary and Bill’s Beloved Liar Sid Blumenthal Arrested for DUI

Come on…70 mph in a 30 mile zone?

He failed the field sobriety test and refused a breath test.

From Nashua Telegraph.com:
NASHUA – A top Clinton adviser faces charges of aggravated driving while intoxicated after city police caught him speeding through Greeley Park a day before the state primary.

Sid Blumenthal

I really dislike this fellow. I’ll never forget how he brazenly stood out in front of the grand jury headed by Ken Starr where he lied like a lying dog about what was going on inside.

No it’s not illegal for folks testifying before a federal grand jury to tell what went on and it’s not even illegal for them to lie.

I know this smirking moron lied, however. All for the Clintons, such fine folk who deserve all the lies required on their behalf.

Hey, 70 miles per hour in a 30 mile per hour zone, evidently drunk as a skunk, perhaps after celebrating Queen Hillary’s New Hampshire victory?

Everybody around those Clintons comes to no good while the Queen and the King laugh and command that we keep coronating them over and over.

FOCUS ON Natalee Holloway
=================
In May of 2005, Natalee Holloway, a recent graduate just barely of age, joined some of her school mates on a much-anticipated graduation trip to the island paradise of Aruba.

Came the time to fly back home, Natalee was nowhere to be found.

The last time Natalee was seen she was leaving with three locals, one Deepak Kalpoe and his brother Satish. Also along was Joran Vandersloot, a local kid known to frequent Aruba's night spots trolling for pretty American girls.

For two and a half year the Aruban and Dutch investigators fooled around with this case, "arresting" many suspects, including those three Aruban brats, then letting them go.

Suddenly, in November of 2007 Joran and the Kalpoe brothers are arrested. An announcement by Aruban authorities came with news of the arrests that "new and incriminating" evidence had been found.

Will justice ever come for Natalee Holloway?
